Grant Overview

The NBA Foundation rolling applications for 2024 ended on December 13th.

Starting February 1st, the Foundation will begin accepting applications via set application windows. The new application cycle will launch February 1st and be open until March 14th.

If you feel your organization aligns with the mission of the NBA Foundation, please apply via the steps outlined below. Applications will be reviewed within 12-14 weeks of submission and only applications from organizations serving Black youth within NBA markets will be considered.

Grant Requirements

In order to be considered for a grant from the NBA Foundation, your organization must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a registered 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization or a T3010 if operating in Canada
  • Have a current IRS Form 990 or 990-EZ from the most recent fiscal year
  • Focus projects or programs on college attainment, career readiness, job training, youth employment, school-to-career pathways, credentialing, entrepreneurship, or internships that target Black youth aged 14-24
  • Serve at least 25 youth annually across your programs

In general, and except in specific circumstances, the NBA Foundation does not fund:

  • Projects or programming that primarily fall outside the scope of college attainment, career readiness, job training, youth employment, school-to-career opportunities, credentialing, entrepreneurship and/or internships
  • Organizations located outside of the 28 NBA markets. Full list of NBA markets can be found here
  • Hospitals
  • Public or private schools
  • Projects or programs primarily focused on serving adults over the age of 25
  • Projects or programs primarily serving youth under the age of 14
  • Projects or programs with budgets under $25,000
  • Direct donations or grants to individuals, even if applied for through universities and research labs
  • Individual scholarships or sponsorships
  • One-time events such as galas, competitions, conferences, and stand-alone career fairs
  • Stand-alone basketball clinics
  • Capital campaigns or projects related to building purchases, renovation, etc.
  • Political campaigns and lobbying efforts
  • Child day-care programs or Pre-K programs
  • Grant requests under $25,000

Grant Application

If your organization is interested in applying for a grant from the NBA Foundation, please take the following steps:

  1. Create an account on the grant application portal, FLUXX, using the link below
  2. Once your organization is registered, you will receive a confirmation email with credentials for login. We recommend you click this link within 48 hours as it will expire.
  3. Complete the grant application within the portal and provide a Form 990, current fiscal year organizational budget, project budget, and board list with your application

Once you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email. The NBA Foundation will be touch with competitive organizations with additional questions and updates to the application.
